North American Longbow Safari

Come celebrate the LONGBOW, its romance, and the people who love shooting it.

The 20TH ANNUAL NORTH AMERICAN LONGBOW SAFARI was held on July 6 & 7, 2002 at the Blackfoot Clearwater WMA, about 60 miles east of Missoula, Montana. The shoot was hosted by the Traditional Bowhunters of Montana.

The Longbow Safari alternates each year between a location in Canada and a location in the northwestern US.

This year's event will be held on July 1-2 at Brownsville, Oregon.

The event has a North American and an African Safari Round - each consisting of 30 3-D targets. One course was shot each day. Other Saturday afternoon and evening events included the running deer, bow birds, a 180 yd long-distance shot and dinner. Traditional vendor displays were present.

The shooting rules were longbows only, wooden arrows with feathers and broadheads. This event has always been thought of as a gathering of longbows and not as a shoot. In the spirit of this philosophy, there is no typical scoring of targets. (Side bets are prevalent, however).

A one-sentence opinion of this event would be: absolutely beautiful scenery, excellent hosts and great people to be with. The pictures below provide a sample of this.
